Mullumbimby Show Keeps Traditional Skills Alive

Get entries ready 1 Get entries readyThis is a callout to all you pie-eaters, pet owners, herb growers, horse riders and vintage car owners to enter some of this year’s Mullumbimby Show competitions on November 11 and 12 at the Showgrounds.  You can demonstrate your skills, have a lot of laughs and win some great prizes.

The Show is our annual festival of rural produce and showcases the skills of our community. There are competitions with everything from the $100 prize for best original song to $50 for the best basket of fruit, vegetables and herbs and $500 for the Demolition Derby winner.    With categories for children and adults there’s lots of opportunities to join in. Trucks competing in the Truck Show will again lead us to the showgrounds through town on Saturday morning.

There’s a host of animal displays and competitions. You can even bring your pets on Sunday morning at 10am to the pet show with sections for longest dog’s tail, most unusual pet and best-dressed pet and owner. Show jumping is over two days, with cattle and poultry competitions throughout Saturday.

Trotting and popular mini trotting is held on both days with the final of the main race on Sunday and a prize of a $7200 RIOMK2 race cart from Garrard’s Horse and Hound.

Performers can enter the talent quest held on Saturday morning with big prize money for winners. Glen Wright from Mullum Music Festival and multi-award winning artist and local, Clelia Adams will judge. The exciting Spaghetti Circus perform throughout Saturday in the circus ring for $5. Clelia Adams, One 2 Many and the Shed Dogs weave their musical wands over the two days so pick up a program or check the website for performance times.

Pie eaters can line up for Uncle Tom’s pie-eating competition Saturday afternoon at 1.30. There are adult and children’s divisions in the fruit and vegetable, poultry, sewing, art, photography and craft competitions.  Hobby Horses are being created for the annual schools display and any children or school can enter.

There’s plenty happening in the Vintage Car arena too, with a new Show N Shine competition so get the polish out. You can get your old cars ready for the laughs and spills of the Demolition Derby with its big $500 prize on Sunday afternoon. Get some practice on the Dodgems beforehand.

All the rides and sideshow alley are back and of course the spectacular firework display just on dark on Saturday night.

Show gates open early on Saturday November 8 and Sunday November 9.

Membership of the Show Society is only $15 per year or $7.50 for 6 – 16 year olds and includes FREE Show entry.  Membership is open to all.  Available from the Mullumbimby Show Stall – details available soon.
